Toyota Teams With German Rival in EV Battery Development

Toyota and Beamer sitting in a tree, developing a new car ba-tter-y... Okay, maybe they're not actually creating it in a tree, but the two companies did sign a memorandum of understanding recently regarding the creation of a new battery for use in each respective automaker's vehicles, and Fletcher Jones Toyota is excited to bring you the details.

By far, the biggest aspect of this deal is the development of greener car battery, but there are also other stipulations to the agreement that benefit each automaker as well. For instance, Toyota will gain the Blue and white Shield's "clean diesel" technology for use in its models, while Toyota has agreed to share some of its hybrid technology in return.

In the end, almost every aspect of this deal is mutually beneficial, as each automaker serves a different segment of the market. In other words, they're not giving their competition the upper hand, as neither one is really competing with the other at the end of the day. And both automakers surely must share a mutual respect for each other in order to share such vital information.

In fact Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG has even gone as far as to say, "Toyota is the leading provider of environment-friendly series technology in the volume segment and the BMW Group is the most innovative and sustainable manufacturer of premium automobiles.  We are now joining forces to further develop environment-friendly technologies and to expand our innovation leadership in each of our segments.  Supplying Toyota with our fuel efficient and dynamic diesel engines represents another important step in the planned expansion of our sales activities for engines and powertrain system."1

So, are you ready to get behind the wheel of a Japanese developed ride with a little German engineering too? It could be some time before the new, jointly-developed battery is seen in vehicles in the new Toyota lineup, but Fletcher Jones Toyota, located at 3255 E. Sahara Avenue, Las Vegas, NV, encourages you to stay tuned for more information on this exciting partnership as it becomes available.
